First 10K

All summer my girlfriend and I have been walking at the cottage. At the beginning of the season I was rather slow, and we only went to the end of our cottage road, about 4.5 K total to walk out and back. Each day she would suggest we go a little further than the day before. She is very active, so this wasn’t a big walk for her, but as she said, let’s push ourselves to get better over the summer.
Being a good sport I agreed. As the summer continued we walked further, and got faster. At the point we were walking about 8 K I mentioned that it would be great to get to 10K before the end of the summer. Our cottage roads are dirt, and there are some rather daunting hills involved. One I call Hateful Hill - it always makes me puff hard and I hate it, and the other we refer to as Everest (think mountain!!). She often sings the Rocky theme song when we get to the top!!
When I suggested we work towards 10K, she told me that although she has walked that and more in a day, she had never actually walked 10K in one outing. Well now we had a goal!

I had done a 10K race and even a Half Marathon when I belonged to a walking group in Markham, but that was a number of years ago now, so it was time for us to meet the challenge.
Since this would be her first 10K, there had to be some bling at the end. I used the August Paper Pumpkin kit to create a medal for her to celebrate her first 10K walk.

Here are close ups of the front and back.

I love the versatility of Paper Pumpkin. The kit was to make cards, but a card was not going to cut it, I needed a medal! She was thrilled when I presented her with the medal, and now she has a special momento for her first 10K walk.
I’m happy to report that as the summer is winding down, we have walked 10K three times, including yesterday when we went further than ever and did about 10.6K total.

Happy Stamping and Happy Walking!
