Masculine Birthday
Many people struggle to create ‘masculine’ cards, so today I have some tips to share with you that may help. Here is a birthday card I made recently for my brother.
There are a few things that you likely have thought of already such as;
Choosing nature images that are not flowers, and using a mainly neutral colour scheme. But you can certainly add some bright colours, or the persons favourite colour if you know it. My S-I-L likes orange, so I always include some shade of orange on his cards. Choosing a bold shade of the colour, rather that a softer pale shade can also help make the card feel more masculine.
I used Bumblebee and Mossy Meadow for this card, and Designer Series Paper from Beauty of the Earth. The sentiment if from the Peaceful Moments stamp set.
For masculine cards, a more simple layout can be better than one with many layers and pieces. While bows are probably not a great choice, you can use ribbon wrapped around sections of the card, or folded in a little chevron. This adds some interest, but keeps the tone of the card. Gems can also work really well, especially our matte gems such as the Matte Decorative Dots I used on this card.
These are just a few tips that may help you get started, but remember in crafting there are no rules. If it looks or feels right to you, go with it. Your creative will shine and that is what matters most.
